After watching the recent documentary 'Salinger' (2013), I was intrigued with the incredible details that had been painstakingly collected and assembled into a remarkable storyline, finally illuminating the life of reclusive American author J.D. Salinger. Though compelled to illustrate certain aspects of his experiences and habits, my usual 'style' of linework didn't quite fit what I had in mind. Below are the results, with a somewhat simplified, graphic approach.
Breakfast. Salinger ate thawed peas for breakfast, and was fond of seaweed tea.
Foxhole. Salinger wrote in a wartime correspondence, "I dig my foxholes down to a cowardly depth." It can be inferred that Salinger never did quite get free of the foxhole. Suffering undiagnosed PTSD from the months of combat shock experienced, Salinger more and more isolated himself from those around him.
Unpublished. There are allegedly 5 manuscripts pending publication between 2015-2020. Until now, the only full-length novel he ever published was Catcher in the Rye.
